Covid shut Harvest’s Sunday School down completely for a
short time. We are rebuilding and repurposing in our Sunday program as we move
forward.
At this point, we are only offering adult Sunday School.
The staff and energies we would normally pour into children’s Sunday School are
now focused on Children’s Church, which meets during the message part of our
worship service. Children’s Church works with a curriculum that included music,
teaching and activities, and is very similar to what a children’s Sunday School
would do. At this point, our sense is that adding a children’s Sunday School
would stretch our willing staff to the limit and would only be rehashing what
is already happening in Children’s Church.
One of Harvest’s long-standing strengths has been adult
Sunday School. Early in the Covid crisis, we began offering an online adult
class hosted by a panel of teachers. While this was a good substitute in a
pinch, we soon felt that the relational aspects of adult Sunday School required
a return to classrooms. We now have two adult classes. The “Man Cave” is
(obviously) a men’s class that meets in a utility room decorated “man style.” The
other class meets in a classroom and has both men and women participating. Both
classes are focused on study of particular passages of Scripture. The mixed
class uses the Standard Uniform lesson series while the Man Cave is following a
different biblical guide.
