Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination for many years.
Doug has a heart for the local church, especially churches in small, agricultural settings.
He says, "I'm concerned that so many believe the church can only be effective and
life-giving in large settings. As American culture collapses in our larger cities, small
towns are going to become the spiritual life centers of the nation. I relish this
opportunity to help nurture and build a strong center of biblical faith and life in
Doug has two grown sons. Matt is living with Doug as he seeks his next job.
Ryan serves with the State Department in Malaysia.
Doug lost his first wife to cancer after 42 years of marriage. On October 21, he married
Pat Schulz. Pat is a nurse practitioner in the orthopedic trauma department of Mayo
Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Pat brought a daughter, son-in-law and two
grandchildren to the family. They live in Rochester.

Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon. He followed that with a Master of
Divinity degree in New Testament and Church History from Lexington Theological
Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky. While serving as a pastor in Texas, he earned a
Doctor of Ministry degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California.
Doug's ministry gifts include preaching and teaching. He has a special focus on
leadership development in the local church. His primary hobby is reading in a wide
variety of genres, including Christian life, history, leadership, church effectiveness and
an occasional sci-fi novel.

Israel in 2014.
