|On Sunday September 14th, 2014, Harvest Church held a special Blessing of the Harvest service. Farmers were
asked to drive their combines or other farm machinery to church. We sang songs about harvest and we heard a
sermon about harvest and we had a special time of prayer by the farm machinery. We prayed for a safe and
bountiful harvest and we prayed for God to bless the hard-working men and women who feed the world.
Harvest time is a time farmers look forward to as it is the reward for the time and expense of planting and tending
their fields. It is also a time that brings trepidation as they get busy and tired and rush to get it done before the
first snow flies and accidents happen. Other churches here in Chickasaw County have a service to bless the soil
before planting, and sometimes a service to show thanks after the harvest is completed. So we thought a church
named Harvest Church should take the opportunity to pray for the safety and success of harvest before the
farmers head to the fields.
At the closing of the service on Sunday, all farmers were asked to stand and be recognized. Then all who work in
agriculture related occupations were to stand with them. And finally all who have ever eaten a meal raised
by a farmer were asked to stand. We are all very dependent on our farmers and we appreciate all they
do to feed the world. We will continue to pray for our farmers.
